The Sensex is now down 270 points at 14,295.
Maruti has plunged 4% to Rs 624. Tata Steel has shed 3.5% at Rs 579.
Ranbaxy, ICICI Bank and Reliance Infrastructure have tumbled around 3% each to Rs 502, Rs 651 and Rs 962, respectively.
NTPC, SBI and Reliance Communications have dropped around 2.8% each to Rs 170, Rs 1,365 and Rs 385, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and BHEL have slipped around 2.5% each to Rs 815, Rs 239 and Rs 1,665, respectively.
Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Motors and Larsen & Toubro have declined over 2% each to Rs 613, Rs 161, Rs 431 and Rs 2,537, respectively.
Out of 2,306 stocks traded so far, 1,234 have declined, 1,002 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
