16 held for hacking 60-year-old woman to death in Assam

At least 16 people have been arrested and sent to judicial custody for allegedly killing a 60-year-old woman in Assam's Sonitpur district after branding her as a witch.

As per reports, the main accused, who is believed to have instigated the mob, has been put under house custody due to the illness of her infant.

The incident reportedly occurred two days ago at Number 1 Bhimajuli village under Bishwanath Chariali police station, where security has now been beefed up.
