358 men and women have set a new Guinness Book world record at the Herald Square in New York City, by 'twerking' for two minutes simultaneously.

The first-ever twerk-a-thon was organised by New Orleans bounce music artist Big Freedia, who required just 250 participants to set the record, but many more showed up, the New York Daily News reported.

The 'Azz Everywhere' hit maker asserted that the Big Apple should now be called New Twerk City.

Charlie Weisman, Guinness World Records' acting judge, worked with eight stewards from FUSE TV, an event sponsor, to make sure everyone twerked with "proper technique.
