Algeria defeated South Korea 4-2 in their second World Cup Group H in a six-goal thriller in Porto Alegre.

Striker Islam Slimani and centre back Rafick Halliche scored in the 26th and 28th minute to provide the lead to Algeria in the first half against South Korea.

According to The BBC, Algeria's Abdelmoumene Djabou netted in a third goal for his side before half time before South Korea's Song Heun-min scored a goal for his side as coach Hong Myung-bo's side rallied.

Yacine Brahimi netted the ball in the 62nd minute to take Algeria to 4-1 against South Korea followed by a goal from midfielder Koo Ja-cheol for Myung-bo's side to end the match 4-2.

This was Algeria's first World Cup win since 1982 and after a narrow defeat by group leaders Belgium in their opening game, they have kept their tournament hopes alive by becoming the first African team to score four goals in a World Cup game.

If Algeria defeat Russia in their next encounter, they would secure a last-16 spot, and if South Korea fails to beat Belgium then a draw would be enough for boss Vahid Halilhodzic's side, the report added.
