Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

Assad made the remark 'jokingly' on chemical weapons watchdog on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize of 2013 for destroying massive arsenal in the country, News.com.au reports.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is working in Syria to destroy the Assad regime's massive chemical arsenal by mid-2014, the report added.

The OPCW, alongwith the UN, have sent a team of 60 experts and support staff in Syria since October 1, after a diplomatic agreement was reached by the United States and Russia to stop proliferation of deadly weapons.
