Muslim residents across Bangladesh will tonight observe Shab-e-Barat, known as the night of fortune, with religious fervour.

Muslim devotees will today spend the night at mosques and homes offering prayers, reciting from the Quran seeking blessings of the Allah.

Shab-e-Barat is considered as one of the three most sacred nights and devotees believe that on this night, Allah decides the fate of all human beings for the next year, reports the Daily Star.

Many will visit graves of their loved ones and pray for the peace of their soul and distribute food and sweets among neighbours and the poor. Many will also observe fast tomorrow.

On this occasion, the Islamic Foundation and other religious organisations have drawn up many programmes, including discussions, hamd, naat, milad, zikr and doa.

Due to Shab-e-Barat celebrations, public holiday will be observed tomorrow.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had yesterday greeted Muslims in the country and across the world on the occasion of holy Shab-e-Barat.

In separate messages, both prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the nation as well as of the Muslim Ummah.
