Marussia driver Jules Bianchi's team and family has said in a statement that the Frenchman has faced a number of medical challenges after sustaining severe head injuries in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, but he is not the one to give up so easily.

But Bianchi's situation remains challenging and the Frenchman is in a critical but stable condition. Earlier, Bianchi's father Philippe had described the situation as desperate.

Philippe said that every time the telephone goes, they know it could be the hospital to tell them that Bianchi is dead, The BBC reported.

Philippe added that Bianchi would not give up. He said that he is sure of that, he can see it and believes it.

Philippe also added that he speaks to his son and knows that he can hear him. He said that his doctors have told them that this is already a miracle, no-one has ever survived such a serious accident, but added that Bianchi won't give up.

Philippe said that the family had been touched by the show of support from other Formula 1 drivers, who gathered at the front of the grid before the Russian Grand Prix, arms around each other's shoulders, forming a 'circle of solidarity' for Bianchi.

Philippe also said he is using the accident of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who continues his recovery at home after suffering a head injury in a skiing accident in December, as a reference point.

Bianchi's father said that he was very sad when the Formula One legend got hurt, and kept wondering, like every one else that why don't they tell them more about how he is.

Philippe said that one day Bianchi seems a bit better, other days a bit worse, adding that the doctors don't say. He also said that the damage from the accident is very bad but they don't know how it will evolve.

Philippe further said that when Bianchi gets a bit better they can transfer him, maybe to Tokyo and things would be a bit easier, but added that who knows when that would happen or if it would happen.
