A four-year-old girl, who fell in a 300-feet borewell in Dyaberi village near Nagatana, Bijapur, died on Thursday.
Akshata's lifeless body was brought to the surface by rescuers almost 50 hours after the child's ordeal started.
The incident, which sparked a massive rescue mission, happened while Akshata was walking home on Tuesday with her father, who is a farm labourer.
Minister for Water Resources, Government of Karnataka, MB Patil said, "We are going to have stricter laws, we would try to fix responsibility on borewell diggers as well."
He reiterated that if the diggers were unable to find water after digging borewells it was their responsibility to close it as well.
