Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Tuesday seized 40 packets of heroin in Punjab from smugglers who were trying to trespass into Indian territory along the India-Pakistan border.
"Along the border, we recovered 40 packets of heroin. The smugglers were trying to cross the border. We have also recovered one pistol, three magazines, 18 bullets and one mobile phone," said Inspector General of the Border Security Force (Punjab Frontier), Ajay K. Tomar.
The drugs trade has been thriving in Punjab, which shares its international border with Pakistan.
After noticing the movement along the fence, security was beefed along border outposts in Punjab.
"On March 11, BSF personnel noticed some movement along the fenced-off areas, and security was beefed up," added Tomar.
The international border is fenced with barbed wire and under the vigil of security forces round the clock.
