Brazilian football officials have said that the stadium for the 2014 World Cup, which was the scene of a deadly construction accident, will not be removed from the roster although its completion will be delayed.

The roof of the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, which is slated to host the opener of the football extravaganza in June, collapsed on Wednesday, killing three workers and causing some damages.

According to Sport24, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the Cup's Local Organizing Committee (COL) Jose Maria Marin said that although he deplored the deaths, he is 'absolutely convinced' that the stadium will host the opener in Sao Paulo on June 12 next year.

However, sources said that the incident could result in a delay of one to two months in construction of the arena, which is 94 percent complete as it is necessary to clear the rubble ahead of a thorough inspection to check whether or the structure was affected, although officials believe that the accident did not affect the stadium's overall structure

The stadium, which is one of the 12 host venues, is also expected to host five other games, including a semi-final, although 30 percent of the site will be closed for an investigation into the matter.

The accident came amid a scramble to meet a firm December 31 deadline set by football's governing body FIFA to complete the dozen arenas, the report added.
