Djokovic outmuscles gutsy Murray to win fifth Oz Open title

World number one Novak Djokovic trounced his British opponent Andy Murray in a pulsating four-set thriller to clinch his fifth Australian Open title in Melbourne.

Top seed Djokovic overcame his British opponent Murray with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-7(4-7), 6-3, 6-0 victory to win his eighth Grand Slam title.

Losing the first set, Murray showed glimpses of resilience as he fought back stoutly to win the second set.

Trailing 0-2 in the third set, Djokovic bounced back strongly to win 12 of the next 13 games in double-quick time, sealing victory on his second match point in three hours and 40 minutes.

While Djokovic smashed 53 winners, the Briton could only fire 41 winners during the match.
