The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has constituted a High Level Committee (HLC) to reviews certain acts, which are administered by the ministry.
The four-team member committee, chaired by former cabinet secretary T.S.R. Subramanian, will look to assess the status of implementation of each of the acts vis-a-vis the objectives; examine and take into account various court orders and judicial pronouncements relating to these acts; recommend specific amendments needed in each of these acts so as to bring them in line with current requirements to meet objectives and draft proposed amendments in each of the above acts to give effect to the proposed recommendations.
The acts to be reviewed are the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980; Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972; The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974; and The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
The Environment Ministry has also invited comments, suggestions and views pertaining to these acts, which can be submitted on its website www.envfor.nic.in.
