With the Supreme Court showing its inability to prohibit the release of the juvenile in the Nirbhaya gangrape case in the absence of laws, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said the ruling dispensation at the Centre is keen to pass the Juvenile Justice Bill and is also ready to bring supplementary agenda on it in the Parliament.
"We had specifically said in the Rajya Sabha that the Juvenile Justice Bill should be passed as early as possible. The Centre is also ready to bring supplementary agenda on it," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the reporters.

"The nation should know that the bill was there in the list but because the Opposition, especially the Congress, is not letting the parliament to function, therefore the bill is not able to be passed," he added.

"We would appeal the Congress Party that they should help in passing this Juvenile Justice Bill. The Centre is very keen to pass the bill," he further said.

The apex court earlier today dismissed the petition of DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal against the release of the juvenile offender in the December 16 gang rape case, saying 'there has to be a clear legislative sanction' in this regard.
