Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani has said that the government is planning to set up centers for Hindi studies across the country with a view to promote the language.

"There is a need for expansion and popularisation of Hindi and new centres will be set up for this purpose," Irani said at a function at Central Hindi Institute in Agra yesterday.

The HRD Minister further said that those contributing to the promotion of Hindi will also be given recognition.

Earlier, senior members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had met Irani to seek a revamp of India's education system.

They had called for changes in the curriculum to better reflect Indian values.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev who is considered to be close to the RSS, had also proposed a new national school board called Bharatiya Board of Secondary Education to "Indianise" the education system.
