Guptas misused diplomatic contacts to land illegally at S.Africa military base

South Africa's Justice Minister Jeff Radebe has claimed that the well-connected and wealthy Gupta family misused their diplomatic contacts to land their plane illegally at the country's strategic and sensitive Waterkloof Air Force Base last month.

They secured landing rights from ministers and an airports company in South Africa ahead of an elaborate reception for Vega Gupta and Aakash Jahajgarhia at Sun City.

News 24 reports that the irregular landing of the plane has drawn heavy public criticism and a demand for an investigation by a panel of ministers.

The South African government is currently probing the breach of protocol, the report added.
