Indian High Commission in Islamabad celebrates Yoga Day

The Indian High Commission in Islamabad organised a yoga camp on Thursday, in lieu of International Yoga Day.

The event, which took place at the High Commission premises, started with a live webcast of Yoga Day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dehradun.

Over 100 guests, including members of the diplomatic community and Pakistani citizens from different walks of life, graced the event, read a statement.

Welcoming the guests, High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria highlighted the various benefits of practising yoga.

This was followed by guided yoga and meditation sessions led by Air Adviser Group Captain J.T. Kurien and the High Commissioner.

"It was a wonderful experience. I was looking forward to this day. I do yoga regularly. It makes you feel good and makes your body more flexible," said Dr Brigitta Blaha, Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan.

 

A similar event was also organised at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The first International Day of Yoga was observed all over the world on June 21, 2015, where more than 30,000 people, including Prime Minister Modi, performed yoga asanas (postures) at Rajpath in New Delhi.

The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014.
