Jaya announces relief to victims of meteorite explosion

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced financial assistance to the victims of the meteorite explosion that took place in Vellore.

"Incident which happened on February 6 in a private engineering college in Natrampalli area of Vellore was fall of a meteorite. A relief of Rs. one lakh to be given to the family of deceased driver Kamarajan who died in the incident," the Tamil Nadu Government said in a press release.

"Relief of Rs 25,000 each to three students of the engineering college who were injured in the incident," it added.

The window panes of the college buses and several glass planes of the building were damaged when the meteorite fell.

 

Kamaraj lost his life after the meteorite fell near him, as he was walking past the building.

The meteorite fall caused an explosion. A crater was formed at the site of blast.
