Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday visited the Bawana district of Delhi to meet distressed farmers affected by unseasonal rains.
Kejriwal, who was on a tour of nearby villages throughout the day, saw the grave losses faced by farmers and deemed it the 'government's duty' to come up with a relief program for them.
"The condition is extremely bad. I have visited a lot of villages today and the farmers have faced a huge loss.
It is the government's duty to do something for them," the AAP leader told the media.
Unseasonal rains this year have damaged over 24.7 million acres of crops.
Debt-laden farmers have already been suffering because of low incomes and weak global food prices.
A delegation of farmers on Friday called on Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat to submit a memorandum requesting compensation to Delhi farmers for loss of crops due to untimely rains.
