Former IPS officer and BJP leader Kiran Bedi on Monday pressed for compulsory retirement as a measure of punishment to the Delhi traffic policeman, who was caught on camera attacking a woman two-wheeler driver with a brick.
"The Police Commissioner has already said that they have lodged an FIR. They have suspended the policeman. I would think that they need to take a step further: compulsory retirement should be given," Bedi told ANI.
"Let him face a criminal charge because such people cannot be relied upon. You cannot have such an angry, stressed out, unprofessional policeman... Secondly, they need to study him and get him analysed. What was his trigger?" she added.
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi today said that the policeman in question has been suspended.
"Strict action will be taken against him. We regret that such a shameful act has been committed by a traffic policeman," Bassi said.
The incident, which took place on Monday afternoon, was caught on camera by a passerby. The victim, who was on her way home after picking up her children from school on a two-wheeler, was attacked by the policeman with a brick.
