Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Menon on Saturday criticized Chief Justice H L Dattu for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that such statements create suspicion in the minds of the people that the former is leaning towards the government.
"The Chief Justice of India is not expected to publically make such statement in favour of a particular politician or a particular political party. What he has done has created unnecessary suspicion in the minds of the people that probably he is leaning towards the government or a leader," Menon told ANI.
He further said that Chief Justice Dattu should not express his personal opinions publically.
"This unfortunately can be misconstrued as something which may affect the purity of justice. Therefore I do not endorse such public statement by the Chief Justice. If he admires Prime Minister Modi he can keep it to himself and should not make it public," Menon said.
On Friday, Chief Justice Dattu had described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "a good leader, a good human being and a man with foresight".
