Barcelona star Lionel Messi has reportedly overtaken football legend Diego Maradona in Argentina's all time goal-scoring list with a hat-trick in the 4-0 friendly win away to Guatemala.
The Barcelona star netted a treble in the game, leaving him level with former footballer Hernan Crespo on 35 goals for his country, and bypassed Maradona's record of 34 goals, the Daily Star reports.
According to the report, the forward, who was handed a place in the starting line-up as he stepped up his return from a hamstring injury, gave Argentina a 15th-minute lead with a left-foot shot from outside the area.
Messi completed his third hat-trick for his country four minutes after half-time when he casually slotted in, the report added.
