Mohammad Yaqoob Mir appointed as J-K Chief Justice

President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday appointed Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

According to a statement by the Department of Justice, the Ministry of Law and Justice, the appointment is effective as of January 5.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 100 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, the senior most Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to perform the duties of the Office of the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court," the statement read.

"[This appointment is effective] from January 5, 2015, consequent upon the retirement of Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar, Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court," it added.

 

Earlier this week, Justice Mir had been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the High Court after Justice Kumar confirmed he would retire on January 5.
