The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chose Syed Murad Ali Shah, as the new Chief Minister of Sindh on Friday.

Election for the post was conducted in a Sindh Assembly session in which Shah secured 88 votes in favour, while three votes were cast in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's Khurram Sher Zaman.

The change of guard came as last week PPP decided to replace former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah with a relatively younger face.

A seasoned politician and former adviser to the chief minister, Shah was disqualified from the 2013 general election as he held Canadian citizenship at the time. He later renounced his Canadian citizenship so he could contest by-polls in 2014.
