Newcastle United forward Papiss Cisse has been indicted for violent conduct by the Football Association (FA) after elbowing Everton's defender Seamus Coleman as Alan Pardew's men clinched a 3-2 win in their Premier League clash.

Cisse, who has scored five goals in six Premier League games, would face a three-match ban if the charge against him is proven.

Cisse has also been given time until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday to respond to the charge, the BBC reported.

However, Everton manager Roberto Martinez said that it was unacceptable as two players fought for their position at a dead-ball situation and one ended up deciding to take the law into his own hands by elbowing a fellow professional, adding that Cisse should have been given a red card.
