As per a new survey, now just 9 percent of Germans consider the end of the Second World War as a defeat for their country, as compared to 34 percent a decade ago.

Most Germans, who no longer recognise they lost the war, claim that they were merely "victims" of Adolf Hitler and regard it as a victory because they were liberated from Nazi rule, the Daily Star reported.

The poll by the German Forsa Institute found that the younger generations now see their grandparents and great-grandparents as victims rather than the Fuhrer's supporters

Author Florian Huber, who has written a book about German suicides after the Second World War, said that they have to think of themselves as the bad guys and it is still controversial to suggest otherwise.
