As the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) advances across north-eastern Syria, the number of Syrian refugees crossing into Turkey has reached 100,000, Turkey said.

The head of Turkey's disaster management agency, Fuat Oktay, said that the figure relates to refugees fleeing the Syrian town of Kobani where fighting is raging between the ISIS and Kurdish fighters since Thursday, reported News 24.

A report had revealed earlier on Sunday that about 70,000 Syrians had crossed into Turkey in the past 24 hours and that the United Nations (U.N.) agency was preparing for the arrival of hundreds of thousands more.
