NY Times finally corrects '12 Years A Slave' article after 161 years

The New York Times has finally corrected their article about '12 Years A Slave' that they had published on January 20, 1853.

The article, which was about the story of Solomon Northup, a free African-American man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery, had spelled Northup's name wrong, in two different ways, the CNN reported.

The name appeared as 'Northrop' in the body of the article and as 'Northrup' in the headline.

As the Oscars focused attention on Steve McQueen's award winning film of the same name about the memoir, a Twitter user discovered the article from the publication's archive and brought the error into light.

The film has won the award for 'Best Picture' in the recent 86th Annual Academy Awards.
