One person was killed and three others injured Saturday morning when angry protesters raided the Iranian consulate in Herat city, the provincial capital of western Afghan province of Herat, the police said.

"A demonstration held by locals near the Iranian Consulate building in Herat turned violent. The protesters clash with the police. One protesters was killed and three people, including a policeman, were injured in the clash," the provincial police chief Rahmatullah Safi told Xinhua.

Earlier, local media reported that three people were killed in the incident.

The demonstrators staged the protest to lodge their complains over long waits to get Iran visas.

Unemployment and joblessness in the war-hit country have led many Afghans to go to neighboring country and seek job there.

Parts of the building were damaged and no member of the consulate was hurt in the incident.
