Pak army confirms its role of 'facilitator' at behest of Sharif govt

PTI and PAT chiefs denied their involvement in allowing the military to act as facilitator

ANI Karachi

Pakistani military has claimed that it was acting as a 'facilitator' in the current political crisis on the request of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government.

The Director General of the Inter Services Public Relations verified the role of the army in a post on Twitter.

According to the Dawn, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar said that the Twitter update was shown to him before it was posted and was proof of the government's standpoint.

Some government officials reported that Nisar had proposed using the military as a facilitator.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he had approved the meeting of General Raheel with Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) after Nisar received a phone call from the party chiefs requesting the conference.

However, PTI and PAT chiefs Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri denied the government's claims that they had requested the military to act as a facilitator.
