Pak singing tune written by Hafiz Saeed: Defence Expert

With Pakistan cancelling the NSA-level talks stating that it would not serve any purpose if conducted on the basis of what it called two conditions laid down by India, Defence Expert Rahul Jalali on Sunday said Islamabad is singing the tune written by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed.

"Hafiz Saeed was one of the first person to attack Ufa declaration in Pakistan and slowly the Pakistan Government started singing a tune written by Hafiz Saeed," Jalali told ANI.

"Ufa declaration was a bilateral agreement signed in a multilateral forum with US watching over. It shows how weak is Pakistan's diplomacy. Some commitment which their PM makes at an international level is not honoured by them. So, Pakistan definitely has a lot of explanation to do," he added.

Responding to a poser on Pakistan's NSA Sartaj Aziz's insistence on meeting the separatist leaders ahead of the talks, Jalali said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has made it clear that talks with the Hurriyat will not be acceptable.

India has described the cancellation of talks by Pakistan as unfortunate.

"Pakistan's decision is unfortunate. India did not set any preconditions," tweeted MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

"We only reiterated that Pakistan respect the spirit of the Simla & Ufa Agreements to which it was already committed," he said in another tweet.
