PM Modi praises cricket, junior hockey teams for recent feats

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian cricket and the junior hockey teams for their recent feats.

India thrashed England 4-0 in the recently concluded five-match Test series.

Congratulating the Virat Kohli-led side in the 27th edition of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, Prime Minister Modi said, "The performance of Indian cricket team has been phenomenal this year. I congratulate the team for beating England 4-0."

He also said that all sportspersons have made the nation proud with their achievements.

"After 15 years, our Junior Hockey has won the world cup. I congratulate all the young players," the Prime Minister said.

India defeated Belgium 3-1 in the title clash of the Junior Hockey World Cup held in Lucknow on December 18.

 

India won their first junior title way back in 2001 when they beat Argentina 6-1 at Hobart, Australia. It was their back-to-back final after losing the 1997 final to Australia by 2-3 at Milton Keyes, England.

After Germany, India has become the second nation to win the title more than once.
