PM Modi remembers Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to freedom fighter and educationist Abul Kalam Azad on his birthday anniversary today.

"Scholar, freedom fighter and a man who devoted his life towards nation building, I salute Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary," PM Modi tweeted.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a scholar and senior leader of the Indian independence movement who became the country's first education minister.

He was one of the tallest national leaders of his time and promoted the cause of Hindu Muslim unity as well as secularism and socialism.

His contribution to laying the foundation of education in independent India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as "National Education Day" across India.
