A rare RAF Spitfire which was shot down during World War Two and forgotten about for 40 years is expected to sell for 2.5 million pounds at auction.
The fighter, based at Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire, was one of only two left in the world to have been restored to its original specification and was airworthy, the BBC reported.
Proceeds would go to the RAF Benevolent Fund and Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
The Mk I Vickers Supermarine Spitfire was originally piloted by Old Etonian Flying Officer Peter Cazenove during the evacuation of Dunkirk.
