Senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma killed by Maoists in Chattisgarh

Senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma was killed in an attack by Maoists in Jagdalpur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, according to television reports.

Another senior leader and former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla was injured in the attack.

According to the police, Maoists kidnapped Chhattisgarh Congress leader Nand Kumar Patel and his son.

The ultras open fired at the party's Parivartan Yatra near the forested Geedam Ghati area on way to Jagdalpur, according to television channels.
