The Sikh community is providing free meals to homeless people across the UK as a part of their religious duty enshrined by the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak, over 500 years ago.

According to BBC, the Sikh Welfare and Awareness Team van supplies a hand-out of hot soup, drinks, chocolate bars and other food items on the Strand in central London every week as homeless people patiently wait in line to be served.

The concept of Langar is being put forward by the Sikh team. A kitchen is set up where donated produce, prepared into wholesome vegetarian curry by volunteers is freely served on a daily basis.

Thousands of free Langar meals are served throughout the UK in Sikh temples.

The Swat team, as they are known, decided to go out of temples and start the Langar on streets after they saw a growing number of homelessness in London.
