Superb knocks from Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard helped Mumbai Indians (MI) to set up an impressive target of 188 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first Qualifier of IPL-8 at the Wankhede Stadium here.
Electing to bat first, MI got to a brisk start with both openers operating at a rapid pace. The duo of Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel put on 90 runs for the first wicket, before both went off in quick succession. Simmons registered his eighth fifty of this season before being dismissed for 65.
Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya too went early trying to speed up the scoring rate.
However, the West Indian big-hitter Kieron Pollard played a beautiful cameo and scored 41 off just 17 deliveries to swing the pendulum back in MI's favour.
However, MI would be feeling a little disappointed with the final score, especially after the kind of start they got.
Bravo, the Purple Cap holder, picked up three wickets, while Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohit Sharma bagged one each.
