Sony eyeing deal with Apple to supply camera component for 'new' iPhone

Sony is reportedly in talks with Apple for supply of sensors for a 'new iPhone' that is slated for next year's release.

Sony is a supplier of CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors for the iPhone 5S' rear-mounted cameras and nearly all rear-mounted CMOS sensors for current iPhones are supplied by the company.

Japanese media reports have claimed that if Sony is able to strike the deal with Apple as a supplier for the new iPhone, potentially an iPhone 6, it could double the number of sensors it supplies to the tech giant, Cnet reports.

Sources have revealed that Apple might switch to Sony sensors for the front-facing cameras as well.

The report said that orders from Apple could profoundly affect investment plans for companies that supply components for the iPhone and iPad.
