A report has revealed that Syria-based wing of Al Qaeda, Khorasan, is developing concealable explosives that can be smuggled aboard airplanes.
Sources said that the group is seeking help from Al Qaeda bomb-makers to develop such explosives. They also said that they are recruiting fighters with western passports as operatives to conduct attacks in their home countries, reported CBS News.
The threat from the terror outfit started to grow as Syria's civil war expanded in 2012, the report said. Khorasan sought sanctuary with Al Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, Al Nusra. As Nusra battled to carve out operating space, the group took advantage of the safe haven to begin plotting attacks against the U.S. and Europe.
The threat had prompted America to tighten security for U.S.-bound flights from foreign airports in July.
