Indoor tepees are taking off in New York, and not just among wide-eyed newcomers nostalgic for home.

For anyone with kids, the tepee has added appeal.

Tepees' significance in Native American culture can't be ignored. But their resurgence as a trendy piece of furniture surprises those who study Native American life and traditions.

New York City tepees tend to open up to the ceiling - but that's not stopping interior designers and boutique owners from setting them up.

Tepees are even moving out of the realm of do-it-yourself. The Los Angeles company Wolfum sells easy-to-assemble kits designed by Annabel Inganni, the New York Daily News reported.
