Three people were reported burnt alive after a mob attacked a village in Bihar's Muzaffarpur District in an act of revenge on Sunday afternoon.
Police, according to media reports, are looking for the miscreants involved in the unprecedented attack.
Muzafffarnagar District police confirmed the death of three persons, all belonging to the minority community, and injuries to two others.
Initial investigations at the Bahilwara Village, whic is around 55 kilometers from Bihar capital Patna, indicate the incident was one of revenge killing, police said.
A few days ago, a youth belonging to the backward castes living in an adjoining village had eloped with a girl from the minority community, an officer said. This morning, his body was recovered from a nearby area, following which a mob attacked the girl's village and set fire to the houses.
Bihar Police spokesperson and Additional Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey said the situation was tense, but under control.
No curfew has been imposed in the area. All senior officials of the district are camping at the village.
