Trump will not visit DMZ during Asia trip

ANI Washington [United States]

United States President Donald Trump will not visit the heavily fortified border between North Korea and South Korea known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) during his November trip to Asia, reported the Hill, quoting a senior administration official as saying.

The official cited busy schedule as the reason.

"The President is not going to visit the DMZ. There is not enough time," the official told reporters in a background briefing.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, and Vice President Mike Pence have all visited the DMZ within the last few months.

"It's becoming a bit of a cliche, frankly," the official said.

According to the Hill, every President except for George W. Bush has visited the DMZ since Ronald Reagan.

The DMZ is 4 Kilometre wide de facto border between North and South Korea and is dotted with military guard posts, mines and defensive structures.
