The United States has said that it welcomes Sri Lanka's efforts to mend its negative international image.
U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Michael J. Sison said Colombo needs to do more to end reports of the Sinhalese majority victimizing the minorities.
Palitha Thewaraperuma, Member of Parliament of the United National Party informed the US envoy that clashes between Sinhalese and minorities had resulted in the damage of nearly 26 Sinhalese houses.
According to the Daily Mirror, the UNP MP said the government should have taken immediate steps to put an end to the violence between Sinhalese and minorities.
Thewaraperuma also said that almost 95 percent of the Sinhalese are not in favour of extremism.
