Australian equity market finished choppy session marginally higher on Tuesday, 24 October 2017, as gains in material and resource stocks offset losses among banking counters. The S&P/ASX 200 index perked up 3.638 points, or 0.06%, to 5,897.6. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 589 to 582 and 350 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.70% to 11.251.
