Auto shares decline on weak August sales

Maruti Suzuki India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Hero Motocorp on Sunday reported a high double-digit decline.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 403.09 points, or 1.08% at 36,929.70.

Tata Motors was down 3.21% to Rs 113. The company's total sales fell 48.41% to 32,343 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

Maruti Suzuki India was down 0.81% at Rs 6071.75. The company's total sales fell 32.7% to 106,413 units in August 2019 over August 2018. Its total production fell 33.99% to Rs 1,11,370 crore in August 2019 over August 2018.

Eicher Motors was down 2.04% to Rs 15928.95. VE Commercial Vehicles, an unlisted subsidiary of Eicher Motors, reported 41.7% decline in total sales to 3538 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

 

Royal Enfield, the two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors, reported 24% decline in total sales to 52,904 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

Bajaj Auto was down 0.18% to Rs 2783. The company's total sales fell 5% to 381,530 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

Hero Motocorp was up 1.02% at Rs 2598. The company's total sales fell 20.68% to 5,43,406 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was down 1.73% at Rs 519.75. The company's total auto sector sales fell 25% to 36,085 units in August 2019 over August 2018.

M&M's Farm Equipment Sector (FES) reported 17% decline in total sales to 14,817 units in August 2019 over August 2018.
