Nifty May futures trade at premium

India VIX jumps about 8% to 40.90

The Nifty May 2020 were at 8,827.45, a premium of 4.20 points compared with the spot closing at 8,823.25.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's & options (F&O) segment was at Rs 9.03 lakh crore compared with Rs 5.61 lakh crore in the previous session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index tumbled 313.6 or 3.43% and closed at 8,823.25.

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, jumped 7.58% to 40.9025.

On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 28 May 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 24.93 lakh at the 10,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 21.68 lakh contracts was seen at 9,000 strike price.

Reliance Industries (RIL), Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were the top traded individual stock contracts in F&O segment of NSE. RIL May 2020 futures were at 1,447.10, compared with spot closing price of 1442.55. Bharti Airtel May 2020 futures were at 541 compared with spot closing price of 540.2. ICICI Bank May 2020 futures were at 301.40, compared with spot closing price of 300.60.

The F&O contracts for May will expire on 28 May 2020.
