Sensex, Nifty crash 10%, hit lower circuit

Trading halted for 45 minutes

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 2991.85 points, or 10% at 26,924.11.

The Nifty 50 index was down 842.45 points, or 9.63% at 7,903.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index was down 9.36% at 11,476.05.

The Nifty Smallcap 100 index was down 10.25% at 3,487.05.

India VIX surged 5.59% to 70.85.

Among index majors, Axis Bank (down 19.98%), ICICI Bank (down 15%), IndusInd Bank (down 14.99%), Bajaj Finance (down 14.23%), Hero MotoCorp (down 13.90%), Ultratech Cement (down 13.30%), Mahindra & Mahindra (down 12.37%), Maruti Suzuki India (down 12.36%), State Bank of India (down 11.61%), Titan Company (down 11.58%) and Reliance Industries (down 11.57%) slumped.

 

The market will resume at 10:43 IST for pre-opening session. Normal trading will start from 10:58 IST.
