United Spirits gains after turnaround Q1 results

United Spirits was up 3.7% at Rs 3,727.95 at 10:35 IST on BSE after the company reported net profit of Rs 19.92 crore for Q1 June 2015 as against net loss of Rs 61.83 crore in Q1 June 2014.

United Spirits announced the first quarter results after trading hours yesterday, 23 July 2015.

The stock hit high of Rs 3,778.95 and low of Rs 3,582.50 so far during the day. The stock hit had record high of Rs 4080 on 5 March 2015. The stock had hit 52-week low of Rs 2,226 on 5 September 2014.

On BSE, so far 51,665 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 35,652 shares in the past one quarter.

 

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 145.33 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

United Spirits' total income rose 10.65% to Rs 2020.11 crore in Q1 June 2015 over Q1 June 2014. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization) jumped 46.6% to Rs 202 crore in Q1 June 2015 over Q1 June 2014. EBITDA margin stood at 10.1% in Q1 June 2015, recording an increase of 2.4% from the EBIDTA margin in the corresponding period in the previous year.

United Spirits said its net sales revenue rose 11.8% to Rs 2006 crore in Q1 June 2015 over Q1 June 2014. During the quarter, the strategically focused portfolio comprising the 'Prestige and Above' brands added 0.5 million cases and grew by 5.7%, resulting in 17.2% imputed net sales growth. This category now represents 33% of total sales volume of the company. United Spirits said that positive state and brand mix is driving positive gearing for the company despite the continued challenged pricing environment in the spirits industry.

Under the distribution and manufacturing agreements approved in January 2015, the company during Q1 June 2015 started the direct distribution/sales of relevant Diageo brands in India. This has resulted in the generation of net sales revenue of Rs 42 crore in Q1 June 2015, positively impacting the net sales growth by 2.4%, United Spirits said.

United Spirits makes alcoholic beverages. It is a subsidiary of British multinational Diageo plc.
