The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday compared the Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh to a "Mughal sultanate" where lawlessness prevails.
The BJP's national secretary Shrikant Sharma said this at a press conference here, while demanding a CBI probe into the incident in Shamli, where a 10-year-old boy was killed on Sunday by a stray bullet from a gun fired allegedly by SP supporters to celebrate the party's win in the zila panchayat elections.
"There is complete lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh. It is a Mughal sultanate where goons celebrate openly with arms on the streets, and no action is taken against them even if they kill a person," Sharma said.
He said that on an average, there were 17 communal riots in Uttar Pradesh in a day, and the rioters were not being brought to book.
At least 10 rapes take place each day, there is a murder every half an hour, Sharma said, adding that the state government has no moral right to stay in power.
