In the wake of the ongoing agitation in north Bengal hills, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations has said students for class 9 and 11 in the troubled region will be given opportunities for online registration past the August 31 deadline.A

"If the registration is not done by midnight August 31 then as and when they are in a position to do the registration (when internet connectivity is restored), when they inform the Council, the portal for the particular school will open," Nabarun De, General Secretary, Association of Heads of ICSE Schools in West Bengal told IANS on Wednesday.

The state government has clamped down on interent connectivity due to the agitation.

The scope for extended registration has been given to schools in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong.

The Darjeeling hills are on the boil due to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) sponsored indefinite shutdown in region demanding the separate state of Gorkhaland. The strike entered its 49th day on Wednesday.

The strike has prompted a prominent boarding school, St. Joseph's School (North Point), to shift classes for students appearing for 2018 board examinations to offsite locations in Siliguri.
