In a bid to highlight the importance of community radio services, a Commonwealth body has announced a special video competition among youth.

A joint initiative of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), UNESCO and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, the competition is open to university and college students pursuing degrees in media, communication or journalism. The video, from three to five minutes, has to be submitted online by January 15.

The topic this year is "Community Radio for Women Empowerment" and the best videos will be awarded at an event to be held here in February. There are eight cash prizes, with a top prize of Rs 50,000.

Entries can be in any language but must have English subtitles.

CEMCA was set up in 1994 by the Commonwealth of Learning to promote meaningful, relevant and appropriate use of media and technology to serve the educational and training needs of Commonwealth member-states of Asia. It has been working to promote the use of community radio in learning for sustainable development since 2006.
